Body language tips teach confidence

BYU-Idaho Life Skills hosted Ring by Spring, a presentation filled with dating tips including a speed dating activity from 6-7 p.m. Friday in the Hyrum Manwaring Center.
Upon arrival, students were asked to put their name and cell phone number on a sheet of paper. Each participant was given a name tag with a number.
When students found they had interest in a person during the speed dating activity, students could circle the number of the individual on the sheet paper they were given and turn it in to receive that cell phone number from the coordinators.
Presenters explained how to have proper dating etiquette and confident body language through a skit and a powerpoint presentation.
Some students said they gained a new perspective on dating during the activity.
Brandon Nielsen, a freshman studying accounting, said he learned that uncertainty and awkwardness in dating isn’t just on the man’s end of the date, but that the feeling is mutual.
Krysten Capner, a sophomore studying elementary education, gave the presentation about body language.
Capner explained how to communicate interest in another person by utilizing body positions that communicate openness and availability.
After the presentation, students were able to put their newly learned skills to the test in multiple rounds of two-minute speed dating. Each person had the opportunity to meet multiple people.
