Tips to pass white-glove cleaning checks

White glove cleaning checks are a struggle for many students. Between finals, packing and maintaining relationships as a semester ends, deep cleaning apartments isn’t high on many students’ to-do lists. Then, if something is missed, fines add up and students lose money.

Here are some tips from a few white-glove experts on passing checks:

Laina Ostler, white-glove coordinator at The Pines, shared that when all the roommates are there for white gloves, they do a lot better. Ostler said she’ll point out a few things they might’ve missed, and the roommates will clean it while she’s there.

Saige Dalley, a sophomore studying social work, agrees with Ostler.

“Find what they look for and stand there as they go through it,” Dalley said. “If they point something out, you can go clean it right then.”

Vacuuming is another thing that some students miss, said Noah Shelton, community manager at The Pines.

Vacuuming is a simple thing, but some students may not take the time to do it, especially underneath the couch cushions.

“Some students don’t clean under the cushions, almost like they think I’m not going to check under them, and then I do,” Ostler said.

Maddie Sanofsky, leasing manager at The Pines, sums up white glove checks in a few words: “Do it!”
